DAYS TWO AND THREE IN NYC: Brooklyn Flea, Washington Square Park, Brighton Beach, Times Square...

A million apologies for taking a month with this, but here we go:

Day 2 (Saturday April 2nd):  We started our day by doing some browsing and shopping at the super neat Brooklyn Flea. It was a vintage lover's mecca of clothes, tons of jewelry, furniture, toys - you name it. And after a true 'breakfast of champions' that consisted of Stroopwaffels, hot tea and cupcakes from the Japan benefit bakesale, my hostess led the way towards Chelsea Market where we they were having a designer clothing sample sale across from the bakery that had cakes in the shapes of Elmo and Spongebob Squarepants sitting in the window... Only in New York.

We then made our way to 'sight see' some more at a cool, elevated, walk-through park in the meatpacking district that housed some neat designer boutiques and buildings. We relaxed and took lots of photos before heading off to another iconic NYC park, and I'm not talking about the Central one.  Washington Square: known for being a 'stage' of sorts, for all kinds of street performers/musicians/dancers/artists. You can walk around and watch a new act in every corner, or just sit in front of the gorgeous monument and take it all in. Either way, you feel inspired.

We finished off the day by visiting the one place I longed to see the most: Trash & Vaudeville Boutique in St. Marks Place in the East Village. I regret that I actually don't have any photos of this. For one thing, I wasn't allowed to take any snapshots inside of this store, but it would have also been impossible to capture the spirit of this part of town in a low quality digital shot. I kid you not when I say this, but (literally) every other shop on every street in this village is a piercing/tattoo parlor, and the streets are filled with young punks outfitted like rock stars. Needless to say, I adored every second of it. Trash&Vaudeville itself, the two-story home to some of the most rare/best stuff that Daang Goodman of TrippNYC has to offer, I drooled incessantly at the most gorgeous jackets that I've ever seen in my life. Leather, chains, studs, skulls, Doc Martens... My knees shook at seeing Jimmie (the super awesome owner of the place, that I'd seen on tv many times before), in person and I was way too chicken to even say anything to him. I spent quite a good chunk of money on a lovely Tripp dress, a Civil War style cap, and a cool present for a friend who was back home in Texas...  the day ended with dinner at an interesting place called Dirt Candy and a late night trip to the Brooklyn Museum of Art where they had the most gorgeous ballroom, lovely paintings, and awesome Egyptian artifacts.

DAY 3 (Sunday April 3rd):
Last FULL day...

No 'sit down' breakfast for us. We rushed off to meet a friend in Brighton Beach/Coney Island, in front of a Russian toy store that I couldn't resist going into. I emerged with the cutest stuffed animal named Cheburashka, who utters adorable phrases in Russian when you press his left hand. (And yes, I know for a fact he says nice things because my Russian coworker back here in Texas translated for me). We walked over to a Georgian bakery to buy some yummy bread that we then proceeded to devour hungrily on the docks of this amazing beach:

There was a playground right on the sand!

Next to Trash & Vaudeville, I think I enjoyed this place the most.  The views were the loveliest, and there was something so relaxing about it... I felt like I was in another world, and I didn't want to leave.  I could see a ferris wheel in the background, and I wish it hadn't been too cold and windy to enjoy a stroll along the water.  But alas, we had an appointment at a nearby pizza place for some New York Pizza...

After engorging ourselves within an inch of our lives, we proceeded to walk it off at the ever iconic Times Square. I didn't get to see as much of this as I would have liked, but it was fun walking through the Toys'R'Us, the Hershey and M&M's stores, and snapping photos of all the cool billboards/ads that I could see. The rest of the day was spent briefly visiting the Garment District, (per my request, of course), where I saw my dream school, Parsons School of Design, and the coolest life sized structure of a giant button and needle.

I would show the photos of that but *somebody* has yet to send them to me!!!!!!!!

She knows who she is.  But it's okay.  I'll share them another time.

She and I made our way back home the next morning. I miss that city so much and can't wait to go back soon.  But I have to say, after a full whirlwind weekend there, I was never happier to return back to Texas to my own bed, my mommy, and most of all  my CAR. But I WILL go back!!!!!!!

The End :)
