This is my December...

^ ^ taken from a really old, rare/unreleased Linkin Park song that I used to love.

I don't turn my computer on very much, these days.  Since I have a Blackberry, I can pretty much check anything out on the internet that I want to, when I want to, so the computer kind of seems pointless sometimes.  Not to mention the fact that the freaking thing refuses to cooperate with me, half the time, but I digress.  My point is I finally decided to come play with this old hunk of junk for a good while today because I needed a break.  Fashion school eats up ALL of my time, this semester.  I purposely stayed away from all the sewing I am currently doing because it was stressing me out. It might not be a good idea, with the tight deadline I have, but I needed to breathe.

When I'm on my computer, I usually spend my time browsing videos on YouTube... my favorite past time.  I caught a little bit of footage from Tuesday's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, that I didn't get to see on t.v., looked up some videos of songs that I hadn't heard in a while, and took a second, better look at Katy Perry's latest offering.

I do admire that girl - she seems very down to earth and her sense of style is adorably genius.  Her music, on the other hand?? Ehhh. Kind of hit or miss for me. The song (and video) of hers from this album that I like the most is the "Alien" one, but it kind of seems like the least popular for some reason..??  ANYways, I became really interested in seeing the new video for the song "The One that Got Away" because I heard it features Diego Luna, (of Dirty Dancing Havana Nights - which I've blogged about!).  It's a cute, if a bit predictable, video. You see scenes of Katy as an elderly woman, (which she actually makes a really pretty one, and oddly enough, it also seems like one of the more tame costumes she's done in the past few videos!).  The "old Katy" is seen reminiscing about her first love, (i.e. Diego), who just happens to be "the one that got away". And I say it was a predictable video because, come on... did you honestly not see the whole "dood drives his car off a cliff and dies" thing coming from a mile away??? Sheesh.

But, yeah, I guess it's still a little sad.

My favorite scene is the one where they crash a dance/party: Katy shows up in a super pretty pink gown and Diego is wearing a Sid Vicious-style black leather jacket with pins all over it, and his hair all slicked back, rockabilly style.  Not going to lie: my heart totally skipped a beat at that ;)

The scene, unfortunately, is too short and quick that I wasn't able to get a good enough screenshot.

I think they make a cute couple.
HA.

here's to new beginnings...

Well. So much for that 30 day challenge, eh?? ;)
Long story short: I've become too busy of a woman since school started back up two weeks ago.  My mind ran away for a bit, but when it came back, it decided to give this whole blog a hardcore facelift. I think I'm finally happy with it :)

Along with the new look, I'm making the executive decision of putting a halt to the 30 day challenge and just go back to regular blogging. I want to restore this thing back to its former glory and just have fun with it.  Don't worry, you'll still have me blabbing about IAMX every now and again, and maybe I'll resume the challenge on my Tumblr, but for now - I feel like talking about other things! I haven't done a "things I love this week" post in a while, so here is (at least one thing) I love this week: new music, and music videos! :D

Show of hands: who remembers a little band called Savage Garden, from the 90's?? Anyone? (What, just me? come on!).  They were a hugely successful act out of Australia who sang uber lovey-dovey, but catchy, songs.  Well, their lead singer, a cutie named Darren Hayes, went solo a few years back and is actually super famous and successful in his home country Australia, as well as the UK and Europe.  He revealed a new single this week from his upcoming album, set to be available next month.  The song is called "Black Out the Sun" and I CANNOT STOP LISTENING TO IT.

No, really, I kept hitting the "replay" icon on the youtube video.  I haven't loved a song like this in a long time!  The video itself is pretty spectacular as well.  Fairly simple, but completely fitting. I love the look of the glowing, red, "blacked out" sky, and the mysterious figures shrouded in black dancing behind Darren the entire time.  There's also a genius part where a bunch of black birds pop out of nowhere, further "blacking out" the sun.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

Check it out for yourself:

AND while on the subject of new singles and videos, IAMX released a new video today!!!!!

You better believe I was overjoyed about it. It's set to a brand new remix of the song "Volatile Times" done by Chris Corner, himself. And it kind of rules :)  This one's dark and borderline creepy, but it fits the song.  And I LOVE the scenes in which they're all dressed in head to toe black, in a makeshift storm. And black lipstick?? I completely approve.

That's it for now.

Do you understand who I am? (Do you want to know?)

The Pretty Reckless' video for the song "Just Tonight" was free to download off of  iTunes last week. I watched it countless times this weekend and cannot get enough of the lovely visuals.
If you're like me and find a strange sort of beauty in all things dark and slightly morbid, then this is the video for you.

The song itself is beautiful as well.  Taylor Momsen's impressive voice shines through and adds the perfect touch of somber emotion to the lyrics.

She wore some beautiful floor length, and darkly elegant gowns, as well as a bright red latex looking one that matched the color of the paint that she was dipping roses in, (see: first photo).

I LOVE the look of the dripping roses on the wall and am extremely tempted to try this method of "decor", myself!!

What do you think??!?!

Gas Masks, Light Sabers, and... Unicorns!!!!!!!!!

Kerli's music videos never cease to capture my heart and her latest visual candy offering for her new song "Army of Love" is no different.

She took the concept of, well, an "army of love" and featured semi futuristic
military costumes with her signature Neo-Rococo feminine style and made it a point to only utilize the colour white, with a few pastel pink details sprinkled in here and there.

OHYEAH, and there was a makeshift unicorn in a forest filled with magical christmas trees... how can you not love that?

there's LACE on the megaphone.

The song itself is okay, I guess.  (It doesn't really move me that much, but I guess it becomes sorta catchy after a while).  But I watched some of the 'behind the scenes' footage that was featured on the Popeater site where they premiered this video and was very pleased to learn that Miss Kerli likes to get her hands dirty and do a lot of the crafty/costume work herself.  She went shopping for supplies, spray painted, and glued rhinestones on masks, as well as helped to style her dancers.

Respect :)

Check out the video here:  KERLI - ARMY OF LOVE

I'm ganna go watch it again.  And again.

Taste me. Drink my soul... I belong to the night.

So I think everybody can agree that it's a little risky for actors to "cross over" into music, and vice versa, when musicians cross into acting. It could either work really freaking well, or be a COMPLETE. DISASTER.

Enter Taylor Momsen of Gossip Girl fame: she's breaking out into the rock music world with a band, The Pretty Reckless.

I like the name. I heard a couple of songs earlier this year. And all in all, I think this just might work for her. I guess what I like the most is that she seems to genuinely try to be herself and not give a crap what Hollywood critics might say. She strikes me as being REAL, independent, and mature, rather than FAKE, and obnoxious like some other famous kids her age, currently running around out there, acting like "rockers"... (don't make me say their names).

Some people think Taylor is dressing "too sexy" in this new role, but I have to say that it's really not that bad. She's mature enough to get away with it. And, Hell, if I had the legs to pull off fishnets like that, I totally would. And I want the black slip/dress thing she's wearing in the performance part of the video for the song "Make me wanna Die". It looks comfy.

Bottom line is, the girl actually has an unexpectedly good voice and this band's sound really suits her. Not to mention, the tunes are pretty catchy.

Also, I respect people who embrace their "dark" side ;)

Check out the song/video for "Make me wanna Die", below, and tell me what YOU think:

the ONLY thing that bothers me with this song, is that it seems to have taken a line directly from Garbage's "Number One Crush": "I would die for you/I would lie for you/I would steal for you".

HMMMMMMMMMM.

this world is a cruel place, and we're here only to lose.

Some people worship gods and saints.

Me?

I worship rock stars.

Last week I saw H.I.M. at the House of Blues. Ville Valo is Saint Valentine and this show was nothing short of a religious experience.

I would give anything to go back and relive that night. To escape back to that alternate universe that was created, when the only sound I heard was his voice, getting ingrained deep into my head, deafening and epic.

The only time I'm ever truly happy is when I get lost in music. I've listened to 'Screamworks' pretty much every single day since I bought it. You'd think I'd be sick of it by now...

These photos are stills from an OLD favourite... a true H.I.M. classic, "Join Me (in death)".

watch it HERE

How many of your favourite bands have you seen live?? Was it a million times better than hearing the c.d.??

*heres hoping I get to see Saint Valentine again one day*

I'll kiss that smile off your face... just say when.

Shame on me.

I'm supposed to be working on my homework, but I've been (happily) sidetracked by the new H.I.M. video, aka the video I wish to live in this week.

I highly recommend the new album, 'Screamworks' to anyone who loves beautiful, honest lyrics and great guitar playing.

I've always wished that I could have been blessed with any kind of musical talent - but great tunes aren't always complete without a great set of words to accompany them. Some people, like Ville Valo, seem to be born with a natural ability to write gorgeous lines that read more like a poem than a song. And English isn't even Valo's first language!! How's that for talent? ;)

Who are some of your favourite lyricists??
Past or current?
English-speaking or not?

Share share shaaaare.

Welcome to the Tea Party...

**The quest for mental revitalization continues**

There's lots of things I wish for, such as one day having the ability to use the "mute" button from my television's remote control on human beings... (come on, you know you've wished for it, too).

But I bet being able to live inside of a music video would be an even better solution. Because that way all I would have to listen to is the music, (but it would be paired with gorgeous visuals). Yep. Sounds like a plan.

Last week, I introduced everyone to IAMX's viral "I am Terrified" video. This week I wish to live in Kerli's "Tea Party" video, (part of the Alice in Wonderland "Almost Alice" album): KERLI - TEA PARTY

What music video do you wish you could live in this week?? (Please share!)

Until next time,

;)
