Reposessions and Red Riding Hoods.

Well, I can't say that I've been much of a busy girl, as of late. I've been more of a... DISTRACTED girl. So distracted, in fact, that I can't even keep track of what the date is anymore. Sometimes life just feels like landing on you so hard that it takes you a little longer than usual to get back on your feet. And I tend to sort of lock myself up in my own little world of darkness when the going gets really rough, so yes, I've been keeping myself distracted on purpose. And I do apologize if I haven't been very "social" lately... (but then again, I never really am, am I?)

Anyways. I felt like giving an "inspirational creativity" update to further distract myself. Lately, I've been obsessed with the movie Repo! The Genetic Opera. It's the most visually gorgeous, sci-fi Gothic Rock Opera ever made. And the music is beyond auditory candy. It stars the legendary Ogre of Skinny Puppy, Sarah Brightman as my favourite character, Blind Mag, as well as Alexa Vega, Anthony Stewart Head, and well... the only person I DISlike: Paris Hilton. Umm. Yeah. No further comment on that. This movie was recently RIPPED OFF by some Hollywood studio and remade under the title Repo Men, starring Jude Law. Trust me, there is NO comparison to the original!!

A couple of my friends thought it would be a fun idea for me to dress up as Blind Mag and take photos, so I did. (can you find me in the collage, above?)

And also, all this past semester I had been working on making a Lolita version of a Little Red Riding Hood costume that I designed, (the photo in the middle). Welcome to another edition of The Floating Head Theatre!!!

(ok, ok so it's only the very first edition, but I hope to have more soon). As most of you already know, I'm kind of obsessed with music, and I'm often inspired by certain songs or artists when I'm creating things. I've recently gotten into making hair accessories, and here are the latest designs, (better photos for those who have seen these before). I've tried to make various different styles that would appeal to people of all tastes... I've named each design after a song that it made me think of. It's Show and Tell time:

"Ruby Soho" - named after the Rancid song.

For the pretty punk girl at heart:

"Miss Take" - named after the Horrorpops song.

For the pretty pin-up girl at heart:

"Gardenia" - named after the Malice Mizer song.

For the pretty Victorian/Goth Lolita at heart:

"She's Looking at the Stars" Set - named after the Kill Hannah song.

For the girl who might be in the gutter, (but looking at the stars):

"Girl Anachronism" - named after the Dresden Dolls song.

For the pretty, (slightly crazy), harlequin girl at heart:

SO.

In addition to slacking on my blogging, I've also been slacking on my sewing. For shame, really. All for shame. I blame my overthinking, as always. I get an initial inspiration for something that seems like it will be a fabulous idea, and then I think and I think and I THINK about it to death... until it ends up seeming like it wasn't such a great idea to begin with.

Did that make any sense?

Probably not. But anyways... I've been trying to change all that and have been forcing myself to do little things, (WITHOUT THINKING VERY HARD ABOUT THEM), every day. I finally asked my mommy to teach me the basics of crocheting last month, and I got *close* to mastering them. (Ok, maybe not "mastering", but at least the art of it makes a lot more sense now than it used to). But my current obsession is embroidering. It is the BEST. It's like drawing with thread! I hope to have lots of neat embroidered stuff to show off soon... right now I haven't done all that much. I mainly just like doing random techniques for practice on scraps of fabric.

A few weeks ago, however, I had a sudden flash of inspiration for making brooches/pins/clip on stuff, and then I realized that these kinds of things could easily double as hair accessories. I hadn't ever attempted making hair accessories before this, so these are my crappy first attempts (in these photos).

I wore the pink leopard one in my hair to work last month and a coworker liked it so much, (she likened it to Betsey Johnson items! Whaaa..?!), that I'm making her one for free. 'Cause I'm nice like that. I hope she wears it! And obviously, I'm not feeling like a Top Model tonight, so instead of showing them off on my head, I attached them to my awesome blazer. Just to show you that they DO indeed work as brooches/clothing decorations too!

My current favourite is the green and purple with gold braid. That one probably works more as a jacket accessory than a hair one. It's more militaristic looking, hence why I adore it.

And yes, I do indeed realize that these pictures suck.

But they're only the beginning.

Lots more creations to come soon... I *hope*. I might be selling these on my Etsy too, if anyone thinks they might possibly consider being even the least bit interested.
